❄️ COOLED:
June 21-23, 2024
The final COOLING of 2024 was perhaps misnamed and should have been called THE HOTTING 🥵! We survived hundred degree temperatures and live to tell the tale. Like all good ruffians, we planned on roughin’ it and came prepared with such things as sunscreen and a bit of shade. Unfortunately, those things were NO MATCH for THE HEAT, but we made the best of it, availed ourselves of the free showers to keep wet/kinda cool, and had the best time.
We are looking forward already to a fantastic COOLING season of 2025 and hope our tales of intrepid adventure and slight ineptitude have inspired you to take the leap and COOL with us next year 📆.
COOLMOVES
The Goodness
- Wildlife: Coyotes yipping in the night 🐺, Mouse in the bathroom 🐁–some ladies chased it out, Woodpeckers, Bozzy’s Beetlemania 🪲 (Eleodes Aramata)!
- Good site: trees and spaciousness, good view, close to hiking trails
- Bathroom was a trek away made better by using the bicycles 🚲, especially at night
- Free showers saved lives to help cool off
- Lauren/Steve’s shade structure, attached to the back of their car, kept us protected from the hot afternoon sun ☀️
- Saw epic full moon rise over the hills on the Summer Solstice 🌝
- Gear updates:
- New water carrier
- Baby pool for baby play and Bozzy drinking 💧
- BUBBLES 🫧
- First use of shade cover on hiking backpack
Food Achievements
- Vegetarian Enchiladas
- Halloumi Breakfast Sandwich
- Prawn tacos 🌮
- Blueberry pancakes
- No s’mores!
Things Learned
- Steve explaining astronomy using interpretive dance 🕺: the full moon always rises at the same time the sun sets
- First time Ali and Ivan rode mountain bikes (but only to get to the bathroom, but it was still fun!).
- It’s hard to stay alive in the heat 🔥–much less do things like crafting or playing card games.
- Camp had good firewood 🪵
