Gualala Point: what can we say about you? What we can say is that you always treat us well and we have a lovely time on you. This was Phoebe’s 2nd COOLING and she had a lot of milestones, such as: getting a tooth! 🦷, rolling around on blankets on the ground 🌀, and hiking to the beach 🏖️!

Danielle, AL, and Bandit joined this group of COOLERS for the final COOLING of 2023. We had fun and games, including Dog UNO 🐶 and working to avoid the drunk lady at the next campsite over who wanted to hang out with us 🐲.

Bozzy was unscathed by the wildlife, but many redwood fronds visited his luxurious hair.

We look forward to COOLING with more friends in 2024!

You’ve been COOLED.

The Goodness

  • Wildlife: Silver fox (not AL), day racs (but they didn’t get us this time), rac hand prints but no stealings
  • New gear: EUREKA Copper Canyon LX 8 Big Tent!
    • Finding a spot for it is gonna be our new challenge going forward
    • But, it’s pure luxury so it’s worth it 👑
    • 8 person cabin style
    • 2 doors! One on each side
    • Fits: blow up mattress, pack-n-play (+ slumber pod), Bozzy’s Zampa, all our luggage, and still have room to walk around and plenty of space for Bozzy to barf on
    • The only upgrade left is getting a trailer
    • Setup was easy, but requires 2 people; rain fly was the hardest part, as usual
  • Kelty Love Seat, 2nd time using it; still love it!
    • It’s still good to bring a single chair, Ivan likes storing stuff in the pockets; it’s nice to have a separate space 🪑
  • Goal Zero Battery was well used for blow up mattress, charging batteries, and charging for Danielle/AL; after all this we still have juice to spare 🔋
  • Walk-in campsite need wagon
    • Seems more privacy
    • No cars driving by
    • Easy hike to the beach, just don’t lose your friends

Food Achievements

  • Cheesy Black Bean and Quinuoa skillet casserole
  • Stale smores smore
  • Shrimp foil packets, yum 🍤! Cooked in campfire; had to get past the unforeseen challenges, instead of making individual packets, we used our trusty aluminum pan and covered it with aluminum foil, which turned out real good!

Things Learned

  • Beach and split up group! There’s 2 routes to 2 beaches. Don’t get lost 🔀
  • Walkie talkies (need charging)
  • Forgot the Mua’d Dib; did not make it into our new packing system; luckily the nights were not that cold so it wasn’t a deal breaker
  • Danielle needed to download her music on her new phone
